JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Conservation has announced their first elk season, slated for later this year.
Spokesperson for the MDC Joe Jerek told KXCV/KRNW that the elk population was over hunted in the late 1800's, and was recently brought back to the state.
Hunters can apply from May 1-31 online at mdc.mo.gov/buypermits. The archery season will run October 17-25, with firearms season set for December 12-20.
